Assistant Director of Sport (Co-Education)
The Head is seeking to appoint an inspirational and dynamic new Assistant Director of Sport (Co-education) to play a key role in shaping the future of sport and exercise at the school.
for January 2026
The Head is seeking to appoint an inspirational and dynamic new Assistant Director of Sport (Co-education) to play a key role in shaping the future of sport and exercise at the school, particularly as the School transitions to coeducation from September 2026, with the postholder having a particular responsibility for ensuring high-quality provision of girls’ sports, including establishing the school’s netball programme.
The successful candidate will work very closely with the Director of Sport and PE and other members of the Department to implement and coordinate a strategic, wide-ranging sports and physical activity programme that will cater to all pupils at all levels: participation, performance, and elite.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a proven track record in developing sport within a coeducational setting with experience coaching 1st team or representative girls’ sport in multiple disciplines, including at least two of Netball, Hockey, Football, and Cricket.
The successful candidate will display a clear vision of the positive impact that a high quality and inclusive sports programme can play in the lives of pupils within the context of an academically selective school. They will have a particular passion for and understanding of the role and importance of sports for girls, as well as potential barriers to girls’ participation and performance, and should have the ability to lead and inspire pupils and other staff in relation to girls’ sports.
This is a teaching staff position. Most teachers at Abingdon also assume a pastoral role as a tutor within one of the school’s Day or Boarding Houses in addition to their other duties. The School offers several attractive benefits, including the possibility of accommodation which may be available for those undertaking additional evening and weekend boarding duties.
We recognise the value of a diverse and inclusive workplace and are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and job applicants. We aim to ensure that our staffing at all levels and in all roles is diverse and we welcome applications from all backgrounds and all sections of the community.
