Contract: Fixed-term, 4 weeks starting 6 July 2026

Overview

Caterham School’s International Summer School welcomes students from around the world for an immersive programme of English language learning, cultural enrichment, and co-curricular activities. We are seeking a dynamic, student-centred EAL Teacher to deliver high-quality English language lessons to international learners aged 11–17.

The successful candidate will create a positive, supportive, and engaging classroom environment, helping students improve their confidence, fluency, and communication skills while enjoying a memorable summer experience. There are opportunities to work additional hours on trips on Wednesdays and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

•Plan and deliver engaging, level-appropriate English language lessons focused on speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

•Adapt teaching materials to suit mixed-ability international groups.

•Use interactive, communicative, and project-based approaches to motivate learners.

•Assess student progress and provide clear, constructive feedback.

•Contribute to placement testing and end-of-course assessments as required.

Pastoral & Classroom Management

•Create an inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environment.

•Build positive relationships with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

•Encourage punctuality, participation, and respectful classroom behaviour.

Collaboration & Administration

•Work closely with the academic team to ensure consistent standards and share best practice.

•Maintain accurate attendance records and complete required documentation.

•Attend staff briefings, training sessions, and professional meetings during the programme.

Person Specification

Essential

•A recognised EAL/ESOL/TEFL qualification (e.g., CELTA, DELTA, Trinity TESOL, PGCE with EAL specialism).

•Experience teaching English to international learners, preferably in a school or summer programme setting.

•Strong classroom management and communication skills.

•Ability to engage and inspire young learners from varied cultural backgrounds.

•Professionalism, reliability, and a strong commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.

Desirable

•Experience working in residential or short-course programmes.

•Experience teaching teenagers or mixed-ability groups.

•Familiarity with project-based learning and activity-based language teaching.

Additional Information

•Salary: £1,000 per week

•Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday teaching schedule 8.30-3.30pm

•Additional time for preparation, meetings, and student assessment as required

•There are opportunities to work additional hours on trips on Wednesdays and weekends

•Meals provided during course hours

•Access to school facilities, including Sports Centre and pool
