Based in Horsham, Christ’s Hospital is a unique co-educational boarding school and charitable Foundation that provides first class education to around 900 children from all backgrounds, supported by over 400 members of staff.

We have a vacancy for a full time, term time Resident Matron in one of our girls boarding houses (girls aged from 11-17) to join us from the start of the Spring Term 2021. The successful candidate will join a team headed by two resident Houseparents, House Tutors, another Resident Matron and Matrons’ Assistants to help look after approximately 90 pupils within their boarding house. Duties include pastoral care responsibilities; administrative tasks, the control and issue of proprietary medications and pupils’ epipens etc., the organisation of pupils’ laundry and household linen as well as repairing uniforms.

For the time that COVID-19 is prevalent, the post holder will be required to carry out their duties in line with the school’s various policies and procedures in place to manage COVID. This will include being an initial point of contact for a pupil who may present with COVID symptoms and ensuring the welfare of pupil groups in isolation within a boarding house awaiting the test result of a group member, but not caring for any pupils suspected or confirmed to have COVID infection.

Sensitivity to the needs of young people, good organisational skills, flexibility and the ability to work with others are essential to carry out this important role. The post operates mainly in term time (33 weeks per year) although you will also be required to work up to 3 additional days before the start and after the end of each term.

We offer an attractive remuneration package: accommodation is provided (two bedroom self-contained flat within the boarding house); benefits include a stakeholder pension scheme for eligible staff, free on-site parking, low-cost membership of the on-site Sports Centre and some meals are provided in the staff Common Room whilst on duty during term time. The two Matrons within each boarding house have a very favourable duty rota with alternate long weekends off duty. This post also gives many opportunities to join in with the community life of the school.
