Head of Outdoor Education

  • East London
  • City of London School
  • Full-time

We are currently seeking to fill the position of Head of Outdoor Education at City of London School.

City of London School is seeking to appoint an inspiring and motivated individual to lead the development of the Schools outdoor education provision.

Despite our urban location, outdoor education already forms an important part of the CLS's provision, particularly in relation to the very popular Duke of Edinburgh Award, CCF, residential visits, field trips and elements of the Games programme.

As pressures on young people grow academically, socially, and emotionally the need for structured, high quality outdoor learning experiences has become ever more important. In the knowledge that outdoor education underpins and enhances pupils academic performance, curricular enrichment, personal development, environmental and sustainability awareness and well-being, we are looking to recruit an individual to develop, within our context, a sector leading programme of transformative experiences for pupils beyond the classroom.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the country's leading independent schools and role offers the opportunity not only to drive and enhance the delivery of the existing programme, but also to develop and implement a cohesive whole-school strategy for outdoor education.

The role is available from September 2026.

It is a top priority for the School that we both attract and retain a staff body that is not only excellent, but also reflects the London community within which we live, and our diverse pupil body. As such, it is of paramount importance to the School that we acknowledge our current imbalance and seek to rectify this. We are therefore particularly keen to encourage applications from candidates who have African Caribbean, Asian or other Minority Ethnic or mixed heritage. All appointments are merit-based, following a fair, transparent recruitment process. In accordance with the Equality Act 2010, however, the School may employ positive action where diverse candidates demonstrate the ability to perform the role equally well.

City of London School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

The City of London Corporation is currently undergoing a programme to ensure that our pay and reward practices are competitive and equitable across the whole organisation to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive in the work that we do.

Further information about the School and a copy of the most recent ISI Inspection report are available on the school website.
