We are currently seeking to fill the position of Support for Learning Assistant .

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and caring Support for Learning Assistant to join our busy whole school Support for Learning Department from August 2024.

The Support for Learning Department at Heriot’s has seen significant development in recent years and enjoys an excellent reputation, which reaches beyond the School itself.  The Department currently consists of the Head of Support for Learning, Junior & Senior School Support for Learning Coordinators, a small team of full and part time SfL teachers and one assistant. The school also benefits from a part-time Educational Psychologist. 

The Support for Learning Assistant is responsible for providing learning support in the Junior and Senior schools – both within the classroom and for wider activities involving pupils.

You will hold the following skills and experiences 

  • Knowledge and understanding of additional support needs and interventions
  • Previous demonstrable experience in a similar role supporting individual pupils with learning and/or physical needs
  • Appropriate academic qualifications that would enable successful support as a reader and scribe
  • Additional qualifications relevant to the role would be advantageous though not essential
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal and listening skills
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Competent in use of technology, Microsoft Office, Google etc
  • Highly empathic and patient
  • Proactive and intuitive
  • Flexible and resilient to cope with the demands of role
