Senior Biology Technician
You will be responsible for coordinating, advising and delivering the practical work across the department to meet the needs of the Biology curriculum.
Contract summary:
Contract length: Permanent
Working weeks: Full time, during term time (33 weeks per year) plus two weeks during the holidays.
Working hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

The role: You will assist with the smooth running of the Biology Department and be responsible for coordinating, advising and delivering the practical work across the department to meet the needs of the Biology curriculum. This will include overseeing pupils’ independent research projects, liaising with teaching staff and support staff outside the Department. You will also line manage Laboratory Technicians within the team and adhere to all legislative requirements in relation to Health and Safety. This is a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the department to the highest standards of best practice, and is influential in contributing to an exciting, industry-leading teaching provision.

The skills: This role will suit a candidate who relishes the opportunity to innovate and aspires to position our biology teaching services at the forefront of school provision. They should have laboratory experience and be familiar with biology equipment, health and safety practices and conducting practicals. In addition, due to the importance of coordination in this role, candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills to articulate compliance essentials, as well as a confident and engaging manner to develop strong working relationships. In order for the role to recommend improvements for efficiency and quality of delivery, candidates should have a keen eye for detail, sound judgement and flair for innovation.

The environment: Harrow School is situated in Harrow on the Hill, northwest London, and is one of the best-known schools in the world. Around 835 boys study at Harrow and live in the School’s 12 boarding houses.
The Biology Department is housed in the brand new Biology Schools and consists of seven teaching laboratories, one research laboratory, a seminar room, department office and large prep room. There are eight teachers supported by the senior technician and a technician.
