Director of Admissions

  • Kent
  • King's School Canterbury
  • Full-time

We are looking for an outstanding Director of Admissions to lead and oversee our pupil recruitment and on-boarding across all three schools. This is a varied and wide-ranging role that has both strategic and operational responsibilities.

The King's School is one of the oldest schools in the country, and today, one of the UK's leading co-educational boarding and day schools, providing an outstanding, 21st century education to pupils ages 3-18.

With a new Head, Jude Lowson, who joined in September 2023, King's is entering a new chapter and has ambitious targets to attract high-quality applicants to the school.

We are looking for an outstanding Director of Admissions to lead and oversee our pupil recruitment and on-boarding across all three schools. With entry points ranging from the nursery to Sixth Form, this is a varied and wide-ranging role that has both strategic and operational responsibilities.

The aims of the role are:

  • To further develop and implement strategies to attract highly capable pupils of talent, energy and academic curiosity from the UK and internationally.
  • To ensure that all communications and events for prospective parents are effective in driving demand for places at the school.
  • to nurture and further develop relationships with feeder schools such that we remain a highly recommended destination of choice.
  • to further develop ways of assessing talent and potential in candidate pupils.
  • To report admissions data, both qualitative and quantitative, to senior managers and governors and further develop systems which accurately record and monitor key metrics.
  • To lead and effectively manage the admissions team in order to deliver on the objectives above.

Candidates with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. You may currently be a teacher but with experience in admissions functions, an existing registrar or someone who has transferrable skills from an allied sector. Given the scale of responsibilities it is anticipated that the appointee is likely to be a non-teaching member of staff. However candidates who have a teaching background alongside the responsibilities of this role are encouraged to apply and to indicate this as part of their supporting statement.

The King School offers an extensive rewards package, including:

  • Gold membership at The King School Recreation Centre
  • Enhanced employer pension contributions up to 10%
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Life Assurance
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Free meals during term time
  • In house training and CPD opportunities

Closing date for receipt of applications: 9 May 2025

The King's School is committed to ensuring the highest levels of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our pupils, and we expect all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We adopt a fair, robust and consistent recruitment process which is in line with the statutory Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance. This includes online checks for shortlisted candidates.

All offers of employment are subject to an Enhanced DBS check, references, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check.
