Sports Assistant (Internship or Graduate)
Start Date: September 2026 Contract: 1-year Fixed Term Contract. Full Time, Term Time Only Hours: 10:30am–5:30pm four days a week (must include Tues/Wed/Thurs) and 8:00am–1:00pm on Saturdays.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and committed Sports Intern to join our high-performing and ambitious PE & Sport Department. Working alongside experienced teaching and coaching staff, you will contribute to the delivery of a wide-ranging and dynamic sports programme that supports pupils of all ages and abilities.
This role will provide invaluable experience for individuals considering future careers in teaching, coaching, sports development or sports administration, offering a unique opportunity to develop professional skills within a supportive and forward-thinking school environment.
We are open to applications from undergraduates seeking an internship placement, recent graduates seeking experience prior to undertaking a teaching qualification or qualified sports professionals seeking a role in education.
You will play an active part in supporting lessons, assisting with fixtures, coaching teams, maintaining resources and helping to deliver an exceptional sporting experience for all pupils.
Key Responsibilities:
Curricular & Extra-Curricular Support
Assist in the delivery of PE lessons, games sessions and extra-curricular activities for pupils across all age groups
Coach school teams across a range of sports and contribute to the full competitive programme
Support the smooth running of school fixtures, including refereeing/umpiring where appropriate
Supervise students before, during and after activities, maintaining high standards of conduct, sportsmanship and safety
Act as a lifeguard for Infant, Junior and Senior swimming lessons (if qualified)
Assist with curricular swimming and pool‑side duties
Operational & Administrative Duties
Support the Director of Sport and PE staff with day-to-day administrative tasks
Assist with the setup and safe use of equipment and facilities, ensuring spaces are left in good condition
Prepare team lists, equipment, resources and communication for fixtures and competitions
Support the update and maintenance of fixture results and departmental data
Assist in the upkeep of sporting facilities and resources
Promote professional standards of punctuality, presentation and conduct
Wider Contribution
Contribute to the School’s social media presence by supporting the celebration of sporting achievements
Promote healthy, active lifestyles and positive attitudes towards sport and wellbeing
Supervise sporting trips, tours and events as required
Work flexibly to support the needs of the department.
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be passionate about sport, committed to supporting young people and eager to gain hands on experience in a busy and dynamic school environment. They will bring energy, reliability and a willingness to learn, with the confidence to work independently and collaboratively within a strong team.
They will show genuine enthusiasm for promoting participation, teamwork and excellence, and possess strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. Experience of coaching young people or supporting sporting events would be beneficial, as would any coaching or lifeguarding qualifications.
