Peripatetic Violin and/or Violin and Viola Teacher
We are seeking to recruit two peripatetic teachers of violin, on a self-employed basis.

Location: Stephen Perse Cambridge Senior School and Sixth Form
We are seeking two peripatetic teachers of violin, at least one of whom can also teach viola, to commence self-employed work in September 2026.
Role description
- Teach violin and/or viola as required by the Director of Music to individual students.
- Encourage students to gain musical knowledge and skills through learning in lessons.
- Foster the self-discipline and social skills necessary for music making.
- Enrich the education of each student through the provision of appropriate musical experiences and to provide skills that will serve the student for future music making, be it for leisure or professional purposes.
- Inspire a lifelong love and enjoyment of classical and other musical genres.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach pupils individually as appropriate to the policies of Stephen Perse.
- Plan and keep accurate records of lessons, pupil progress and achievement, keep accurate attendance registers and other such records.
- Write pupil reports.
- Have and continue to update a thorough knowledge of teaching methods and repertoire and to be able to advise pupils and the school about suitable repertoire and teaching material.
- Advise and encourage pupils to take advantage of appropriate musical activities such as choirs, ensembles, competitions and other musical opportunities.
- Prepare pupils, when and where appropriate, for the requirements of The Associated Board Of the Royal Schools of Music or Trinity College examinations, ensuring that all aspects of the examination requirements are well prepared and organised.
- Be aware of the individual needs of pupils by liaising with the Director of Music.
- Prepare pupils for performances at recitals, concerts, church services, competitions as required.
- Advise parents and pupils on the appropriate choice and purchase of instruments, music and accessories.
- Perform other such duties related to the job purposes as may be required from time-to-time.
Safeguarding and welfare of children
The post holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact, will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with Stephen Perse’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy statement at all times. If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the post, the role-holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School, s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Person or the Foundation’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Stephen Perse adheres to the Safer Working Practices guidance and all teaching staff are required to adhere to the Teaching Standards which can be found on the government website.
Terms and conditions
All appointments for Stephen Perse are subject to satisfactory reference and disclosure and barring service (DBS) checks, proof of identity and eligibility to work in the UK, completion of a medical questionnaire and proof of qualifications.
Hours of work
This will depend on the number of pupils that apply for lessons but it is anticipated this would be around three days per week, with the exact split between teachers to be discussed.
