Academic Deputy
We seek to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced person to the position of Academic Deputy from September 2025.
Job Description
• Play a key part in delivering an outstanding educational experience for pupils from Year 9 to Upper Sixth that aligns with the school's vision of education and position as a leading, academic independent school.
• Promote excellence, creativity and innovation in all areas of the curriculum. Working with other members of the Senior Leadership Team on the shape of the timetable, curriculum model and subject range.
• Keep the curriculum and teaching and learning up to date with educational developments, including AI and the use of tech in teaching and learning.
• Lead a data-driven approach to tracking pupils’ progress, working with the Pastoral Deputy and other members of the Senior Leadership Team to ensure regular reviews through the House system.
• Work with the Head of Sixth Form on academic tracking and monitoring from 5th Form through to Upper Sixth including applications for future pathways.
• Implement a rigorous process for assessment, recording and reporting in order to ensure that data is constantly being used to inform teaching and learning strategies and to improve pupil progress and achievement.
• Foster a culture of academic accountability and the delivery of academic success, particularly at I/GCSE and A Level.
• Line-manage Heads of Departments to encourage innovative teaching practice consistent with the school’s vision.
• Ensure internal and external exams are run efficiently and in accordance with all exam regulations.
• Work with the Senior Leadership Team at St Peter’s 8-13 to ensure a smooth and effective flow of education including consistency in monitoring systems to manage a smooth transition from Year 8 to Year 9.
• Oversee suitable academic extension programmes within the curriculum and co-curriculum.
• Keep all school policies and documentation in relation to the academic curriculum, teaching and learning, and assessment updated.
• Write reports for Governors as required and attend the Governors’ Education Committee.
• Run academic information events for pupils and parents and oversee parents’ evenings.
• Work with the Director of Admissions, Marketing and Communication in order to ensure that there is a rigorous admissions process for entry to the Senior School.
• Contribute to the collection and dissemination of all information relating to the School for the purposes of marketing and communication.
• Support the Head Master and Senior Deputy Head with the implementation of an effective appraisal and review system for teaching staff and departments.
• Contribute to the strategic planning of the Senior School and to the wider work of the Senior Leadership Teams across the School.
• Support the Head Master in recruiting and retaining the very best teaching talent. Advising on staffing requirements, proactively looking for an efficient and optimal model.
• Contribute to the highest standards of safeguarding and pastoral care.
• Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.
