The school is seeking two experienced casual lifeguards to work in the onsite pool. The role can be varied as you will be a key member in helping deliver/ set up various aquatic sessions for the school and our external commercial customers.

Job Title: Casual Lifeguard

Responsible to: Swimming Pool Manager

Hours of work: Working hours are as and when required, as requested by the Swimming Pool Manager, though likely to be during the day, as well as weekends. Ad Hoc cover may also be required.

Salary: £13.36 per hour (£15.30 inclusive of holiday pay)

The school is seeking two experienced casual lifeguards to work in the onsite pool. The role can be varied as you will be a key member in helping deliver/ set up various aquatic sessions for the school and our external commercial customers. Candidates must hold a current Royal Lifesaving Society National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) and have a good working knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation.

Overall purpose of the post:

To be responsible for providing a lifeguarding service at the School’s swimming pool

Key responsibilities:

1. To provide a lifeguarding service during all school lessons, boarders swimming sessions, staff and parents swim, and at other times as required

2. To remain vigilant and respond immediately to any emergency.

3. To assist in the effective operation of programme of activities, including equipment set up and changeovers as required for the scheduled programme both for internal and external customers.

4. To undertake water testing when it is due during allocated time on site, reporting to the Swimming Pool Manager or to Estates staff any discrepancies or concerns immediately. If the water test is outside the safe limits, the lifeguard must prevent access into the pool water by any person until a competent person has re-set the water treatment and confirm the quality is back within specification and safe.

5. To undertake the cleaning of the whole facility (including changing rooms, toilets, pool and poolside, other public areas) adhering to a schedule and standards set.

6. To facilitate special events such as galas, including school open days to showcase the facility to prospective pupils and parents.

7. To report any defects in or damage to equipment associated with the facility, reporting any / issues to the Swimming Pool Manager or to Estates staff as required.

8. To establish and maintain excellent relationships with all customers, both internal and external and to ensure everyone feels welcomed and valued.

9. To ensure the security of the pool building including locking doors and setting the alarm systems, and reporting any faults on the system

10. To ensure continuous personal development, including attending monthly refresher sessions, maintaining personal fitness appropriate for lifeguarding duties and to maintain and retain appropriate lifeguard qualifications.
