Library Assistant

To assist the Librarian in promoting and developing the school library in order to provide an efficient service to pupils and staff. On Mondays and for three hours in the morning Tuesday to Friday, the post holder will cover the senior school library. and supervise the junior school library.

Hours of work: Term Time only (34 weeks)

Monday – 7.45 to 5.45 (includes one hour unpaid lunch)

Tuesday to Friday – 7.45 – 11.00

Total: 22 hours per week

Salary: 12,266 p.a. (Support Scale - Point 3, pro-rata)

About the Role:

Key responsibilities:

  • To manage the issuing and returning of the library’s stock
  • To shelve stock and keeping the library tidy and in good order
  • To withdraw stock under the direction of the school librarian
  • To provide support for cataloguing of new material to the library collection.
  • To process new material so that it is ready for shelving
  • To assist in managing the library management system and supporting its use by pupils
  • To provide guidance and assistance to pupils and staff on information retrieval and reading materials
  • To promote the library and its resources both within the library and the whole School and externally, where relevant
  • To assist with any other duties to ensure the smooth running of the library, as required by the Librarian
  • To deputise/cover for the Librarian as required
