To work under the instruction and guidance of Learning Support primarily to support GCSE pupils to access Maths and English learning within the classroom.

Role Description

Responsible to: Head of Learning Support and SENCO

Hours of work: Monday and Wednesday 08.30-12.40, Tuesday , Thursday and Friday 08.20-16.00

Salary/Scale: £16,390.50 p.a. (Support Point 3, pro rata).

Overall purpose of the post:

To work under the instruction and guidance of Learning Support primarily to support GCSE pupils to access Maths and English learning within the classroom.

Key responsibilities:

1 To work with pupils (as specified by the Head of Learning Support and class teachers) individually or in small groups, including those with additional needs. This includes ensuring access to learning activities within the classroom or other teaching areas in line with teaching programmes and adjusting activities according to pupils’ responses.

2 To develop positive and supportive relationships with pupils and be aware of their differing needs.

3 To contribute to the assessment and monitoring of pupil progress through a proactive approach in using the graduated approach of assess, plan, do and review.

4 To use clearly structured teaching and learning activities, to interest and motivate pupils and advance their learning.

5 To prepare, organise, maintain and use equipment and resources as required to meet the lesson plans or other relevant learning activities.

6 To accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and other out of school activities as required. This may include taking responsibility for one pupil under the direction of the teacher.

7 To plan, prepare and deliver activities which you will assess and monitor progress in these activities and then liaise with the class teacher.

8 To assist the Head of Learning Support with baseline assessments and other relevant SEND paperwork.

9 To attend out of working hour activities as required e.g. training, staff meetings, parents’ meetings and preparation days in the holidays.

10 To liaise with pastoral staff as required.

11 To liaise sensitively and effectively with parents, recognising their role in pupils’ learning when required to do so.

12 To improve own practice, through observation, self-evaluation and discussion with colleagues and the Head of Learning Support.
