The Grange School is seeking to recruit a Biology Technician on a part-time, permanent basis from 1st September 2026, working 2 days per week, every Thursday and Friday.

Salary: £8199.40 per annum

Reports to: Head of Biology

Working hours: 2 days per week (Thursday and Friday), 8.15 am - 4.30 pm, including a 60-minute lunch break


The Grange School is seeking to recruit a Biology Technician on a part-time, permanent basis from 1st September 2026, working 2 days per week, every Thursday and Friday. This position is suitable for an experienced technician looking for a role within a busy and vibrant department.

The Biology Department is a strong team whose teaching environment is productive and exciting with both teachers and pupils contributing generously to its success. Field trips offer exciting opportunities to explore some of the world’s most biologically rich regions, with previous expeditions including Southern Africa, Kenya, Thailand, and the Galápagos Islands.

There are three departments within Science – Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Each of the three departments function autonomously and are run by their own Head of Department.

In Year 7, students are taught Science for 6 periods in each cycle. From Year 8 onwards the three Sciences are taught separately by subject specialist teachers.

The Science department is housed in state of the art accommodation and is generously resourced throughout. Each subject has their own prep room that services the three departmental laboratories. Additional facilities include a microbiology prep room, a dark room, a chemical store and three departmental offices.

The successful candidate will be expected to fulfil the following duties:-

  • Work within a team of three Science Technicians (one in each department)
  • Prepare materials, apparatus equipment and chemicals for use in practical activities on a daily basis (experience in the field of Microbiology would be an advantage)
  • Ensure that these practical activities are delivered to the correct place at the correct time and that they are tidied away afterwards
  • Keep the three Biology laboratories and the Biology Prep Room tidy and organised ensuring equipment, apparatus, materials and chemicals are in a fit state ready for use, clean, good working order and stored safely.
  • Ensure appropriate stock levels of equipment, apparatus, materials and chemicals are checked periodically and maintained.
  • Complete the PAT testing for the department
  • Maintain and upkeep all equipment; organising for repairs as necessary
  • To look after the plants and animals that are housed within the department. This will include cleaning and feeding all livestock including; snakes, bearded dragon, tortoise, insects and both tropical and freshwater fish
  • To assist in the correct disposal of microbiological waste in accordance with CLEAPSS guidelines
  • To keep up to date with the CLEAPSS guidelines for Health and Safety and to work within these directives
  • Complete an annual stock check and assist the Head of Department in putting together the annual requisition
  • Work with the Head of Department to maintain the pond and greenhouse?? How long will these be here
  • A willingness to complete a four day first aid course would also be a benefit
