The Perse School Cambridge is one of the country’s leading independent co-educational day schools for children aged 3-18. Every successful school needs an excellent team working to keep things running smoothly and we are no exception. Support staff play a pivotal role in delivering a safe and efficient educational environment to support our pupils, covering a wide range of important operational roles. Support staff work in collaboration with teaching staff to ensure our exceptional facilities and teaching and learning environments are delivered to the highest standards.

Role Purpose

To maintain a visible and professional security presence across the School site, with pupil welfare as the central priority. You will help ensure pupils are safe, appropriately supervised, and where they should be at the right times; support secure access and effective visitor management; monitor and review CCTV when required; and carry out regular safety walks. The role requires calm, sound judgement, excellent communication skills, and a strong safeguarding focus. The post reports to the Director of Operations and works closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Pastoral Leaders.

Working hours

The role is five days per week, all year round (52-weeks), working predominately Monday to Friday (10am – 6pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break) This equates to 37.5 paid hours per week. There is the requirement to work regular Saturday mornings in School during term-time for which time off in lieu can be taken during holidays. This means that there will be extended holiday periods outside of term-time which can be taken. We are also willing to consider candidates wanting to work term-time only. Paid holiday entitlement is 30 days plus Bank holidays per annum

You will be expected to take a proactive approach to planning and managing your workload, using quiet periods effectively and anticipating peak times and operational needs. Flexibility is essential: working hours will vary to support the School’s requirements, including providing cover for evening activities and weekend events when needed. This will involve adjusting start and finish times, working additional hours on occasions for which time off in lieu can be claimed.
