A new opportunity at the Perse has arisen for a Teacher of English to start in September 2026. We are looking to appoint a high achieving graduate to join this popular, dynamic and successful department. Pupils at The Perse School are intelligent, industrious and intellectually curious and this is an exciting opportunity to motivate and inspire talented pupils in a fast-paced working environment.

The English and Drama Department is a supportive, energetic, and collegiate team. The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for English literature and be well placed to generate and sustain a high degree of motivation in all pupils, who are mainly of high ability. English and Drama are delivered together in a single department at the Upper, and – together – these subjects occupy a central position in the school’s curriculum. Whilst each member of the department is a specialist in either English or Drama, at the same time all colleagues share a passion for both subjects, and most staff contribute in some way towards the delivery of both English and Drama. The department offers an enviably wide range of creative writing, drama, public speaking, literacy and study tour opportunities to all pupils and every member of the school will come into contact with our activities at some point in their time with us: for many this will lead to a life-long love of the creative arts.

Beyond the curriculum, the department organises a wide range of activities in which all pupils can participate, including an extensive programme of in-house drama productions, debating and public speaking events, trips to the theatre and other cultural events, clubs, societies and competitions.

Public exam results regularly place The Perse in the top 30 schools nationally and in a typical year over 30 pupils will receive Oxbridge offers. The Perse enjoys a prestigious reputation and values a mixed approach to teaching and learning. We aim to respect tradition and innovation, industry and fun, and academic and personal growth. All teachers and pupils are required to demonstrate all-round excellence and contribute to the academic, pastoral and extra-curricular life of the school.

At The Perse School, we value the well-being of all staff and offer a supportive environment that balances professional ambitions with personal growth, opportunity and work-life balance.

Safer Recruitment

The Perse School recognises that an important element in safeguarding our pupils is a robust recruitment process that incorporates measures to deter, reject or identify people who might abuse children, or who are otherwise unsuited to work with them. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including: references from previous employers, a Disclosure and Barring Service check at the enhanced level, as well as eligibility to work in the UK (in compliance with UK immigration regulations). All work carried out at the School on a regular basis amounts to regulated activity. This role is also exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone's responsibility. The School is committed to acting in the best interests of the child so as to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. The School requires everyone who comes into contact with children and their families to share this commitment. Interviews will be conducted in person, and they will explore candidates’ suitability to work with children.
