A rare and exciting opportunity at the Perse School has arisen for a Teacher of History to start in September 2026. We are looking to appoint a high achieving graduate to join this popular, dynamic and successful department. Pupils at The Perse School are intelligent, industrious and intellectually curious and this is an exciting opportunity to motivate and inspire talented pupils in a fast-paced working environment.

History is a highly successful department. At GCSE level the results place it in the top 10 achieving schools in England with Perse students regularly awarded the highest marks nationally each Year. Most recently in 2025 a Perse History student was awarded the Joe Scott award for History Around Us. Equally impressive are the results at A Level with students again awarded top marks nationally and an A*/A rate of 70%. But beyond this the department is keen to promote the subject at every level.

The History Department is made up of eight specialist teachers, with additional support from teachers in the PER, Geography and Games departments.

The History Society student group meets regularly where they run quizzes, give presentations, and host guest speakers. Other extra-curricular opportunities exist in the forms of a Year 9 trip to the First World War battlefields in Belgium and a Year 11 trip to Berlin. There are also History seminars and UCAS groups for the Sixth Form.

Public exam results regularly place The Perse in the top 30 schools nationally and in a typical year over 30 pupils will receive Oxbridge offers. The Perse enjoys a prestigious reputation and values a mixed approach to teaching and learning. We aim to respect tradition and innovation, industry and fun, and academic and personal growth. All teachers and pupils are required to demonstrate all-round excellence and contribute to the academic, pastoral and extra-curricular life of the school.

At The Perse School, we value the well-being of all staff and offer a supportive environment that balances professional ambitions with personal growth, opportunity and work-life balance.

Safer Recruitment

The Perse School recognises that an important element in safeguarding our pupils is a robust recruitment process that incorporates measures to deter, reject or identify people who might abuse children, or who are otherwise unsuited to work with them. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including: references from previous employers, a Disclosure and Barring Service check at the enhanced level, as well as eligibility to work in the UK (in compliance with UK immigration regulations). All work carried out at the School on a regular basis amounts to regulated activity. This role is also exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone's responsibility. The School is committed to acting in the best interests of the child so as to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. The School requires everyone who comes into contact with children and their families to share this commitment. Interviews will be conducted in person, and they will explore candidates’ suitability to work with children.
