Salary: GDST Middle Leader Grade 4 £48,369 - £68,283

Start Date: April 2026

Purpose

Leadership & Community

  • Lead and manage boarding provision; act as HM of School House and reside during term time.
  • Line manage Deputy and Assistant House Parents; oversee staff appraisals and training.
  • Ensure compliance with National Minimum Standards, ISI inspections, and GDST audits.
  • Coordinate Health & Safety, boarding budget, and strategic development plans.
  • Teach approx. 10 lessons per fortnight and foster a vibrant, inclusive boarding community.

Pastoral Care

  • Provide a safe, supportive, homely environment promoting wellbeing.
  • Build strong relationships with boarders; act as main contact for personal, academic, and social matters.
  • Monitor mental health, liaise with safeguarding and counselling services.
  • Uphold discipline through fair systems of rewards and sanctions.

Academic Oversight

  • Communicate with academic staff; monitor progress and support learning.
  • Oversee homework routines, study conditions, and targeted interventions.
  • Write House reports and celebrate academic success.

Administration & Organisation

  • Manage duty rotas, daily operations, and accurate welfare records.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health & safety, and fire safety procedures.
  • Organise House events, assemblies, and extracurricular activities.

Parental Engagement

  • Act as main liaison with parents; maintain timely, professional communication.
  • Host meetings, welcome events, and respond promptly to concerns.

Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Serve as Deputy DSL; lead risk assessments and staff training.
  • Ensure medical needs are met and records maintained.

Marketing & Recruitment

  • Promote boarding through events, social media, and partnerships.
  • Lead retention strategies and monitor effectiveness.

Essential Skills & Attributes

  • Strong interpersonal, organisational, and safeguarding knowledge.
  • Empathetic, resilient, proactive, and committed to school life.
  • Relevant pastoral/childcare qualification (or willingness to train).
